Derek Murray, considered one of the best poker players in Ireland over the last decade as well as being one of the most popular, won last weekend's Omaha Masters Championship in the Eglinton Club.
After struggling for the first few levels on Friday night, Derek hit a rush of cards to end up as the overnight leader of 16 survivors. He still held the chip lead going to the final table but was overtaken by James Groarke from Cork when James knocked out Galway star George Stoddart in fifth. Cahal"Sniffer"Heaps, fresh from starring in The Apprentice, was next out in fourth before a huge turnaround.
Derek hit two pair against James' overpair to double up and gain a huge chip lead. Play continued for two more hours before a deal was proposed which gave Derek the title and second place was split between James and Eglinton regular Vincent McNeela who had qualified from Thursday's Super Sat and played an excellent tight game throughout.
WELL DONE TO ALL THE PRIZE WINNERS
