Eglinton ticket winners, Mark Spellman and Manus Burke both survived Day 1 of the Main Event at the Cork Winter Festival.
92 players started and 48 remain. Mark has just over average with 40000 having lost a 70000 pot on the last level all-in preflop with AK against KT and Q9. King Ten on flop, Ten on river. Manus has 23000 and claims not to have played any pot bigger than 4000 through 7 one hour levels.
Other Eglinton players Kieran Furey and Pat Griffin failed to survive Day 1. Kieran never got going and perished during level 5 when his K4 on a King high flop lost to K8.
Pat, on the other hand, had a rollercoaster day. He was chip leader with 90000 when his KK lost a 80000 pot to 98 all-in on a 762 flop and then lost a 100000+ plot on the last hand of the day, all-in again with KK against Ah8h on the flop on a 9h 5h 2s flop.
Pat was a 56% favourite to win but lost to both As and 4h on the turn and river.
